Begin with your goals and weekly routine
Explain what you want support to help you do. That might be building everyday skills, getting out into the community, attending appointments, managing home routines or having more choice and independence.
Ask practical questions before agreeing
Make sure the provider understands the type of funding you use and can clearly explain their service process.
- Which services are available in my area?
- Can support be provided at the times I need?
- How will workers be matched with me?
- How are changes, cancellations and concerns handled?
- What information will appear on service agreements and invoices?
Look for support that protects your choice
You should feel listened to and involved. A provider should learn your preferences, communication style and goals, then work with you to shape the support rather than making assumptions.
